Dr. Roel Cagape is a receipient of the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino award for the individual category last July. He is a doctor in General Santos city and gives free medication to those in need, especially those in the rural areas and provinces surrounding GenSan.



In his 25 years of being a doctor, he gives medication to those in the rural areas of Gen San. He also goes up the mountain every last week of the month to give medication to the people there.



He has started many projects that benefited the people as a doctor. The I-text mo kay doc is a project where anybody can get medical advise throughout the day. His other project, Ambulansyang Kabayo, seeks to teach people on how to use horses for patients, in case of emergencies.



He is a modern day hero because he has let go of the leisures of life to help those in need. He himself states he sometimes has no money to ride a tricycle. Yet, this does not stop him from volunteering his help in the rural areas of GenSan throughout his life as a doctor.



Secondly, He finds happiness in serving others. He says conducting medical missions is a form of relaxation for him. Every month he has to trek a one and a help day path way up the mountain to help the people there, but he doesn't complain. He says he finds happines in helping others. Dr. Roel Cagape embodies the characteristics of  modern day hero
