Living It Out

Simple Steps to Nationalism

By: Kyle Kang H1D

Be Participative in Relief Operations

By doing this, it shows that we support our fellow countrymen, especially those who are calamity-struck and in need of help. Nationalism is more than just love for the country. It involves acts of service towards our countrymen, and we can therefore do so by simply donating or helping in various relief operations.

Study Philippine History

In order to be nationalistic, we must first know our country's own history, so that we may realize who we are as a people and how are nation and culture came to be. We can also learn from the good examples of our national heroes from the past and thus encourage ourselves and others to promote even more nationalism in our country nowadays, just as our ancestors have done before.

Patronize the Beautiful Places of Our Country

The Philippines has many beautiful places, some of which have no equal in other countries abroad, therefore we must learn to appreciate them. These places also allow us to promote our culture and nationalism even more, as these places will teach us to further love our country.

Promote Filipino Sports Teams

Many of the sports teams of the Philippines are trying really hard to make our country proud by doing well in sports competitions, and it is only right for us to support them in any way we can, whether through donations or through moral support. Our sports teams also promote our country and bring pride to us Filipinos, therefore it is our duty to return the favor and show our appreciation and dedication towards them.

04

Attend Fiestas and Promote These to Friends

The fiestas or feasts here in our country have become so associated with our culture that it is hard to think of the Philippines without it. Promoting culture is also promoting nationalism, as it helps us identify ourselves from other nations and be different from them. We must therefore join simple Filipino fiestas and encourage our friends to do so. This will enable not only ourselves, but other people, to exercise nationalism.

Patronize Filipino Music

When we say filipino music, many would think that we are talking about the ancient music our ancestors used. This itself is not bad, as it promotes our Filipino culture and nationalism. However, we also have the modern rock bands and OPM which produce great music and are actually as good as their counterparts abroad. We must patronize all these, whether modern or ancient, as we are not only helping our fellow country members by showing appreciation towards them, but also our local way of life involving music.
