Tomas Leonor is one of the seven recognized filipinos in the Pitong Pinoy of Yahoo Philippines. He is the founder and organizer of Step Juan, an expedition which aims to raise funds for children with cancer.



Tomas Leonor graduated from the University of the Philippines, Diliman with a degree in Fine arts. His is currently a freelance artist, mountaineer and volunteers for various environmental organizations.



When he was growing, he had health problems such as allergies, so he told himself that he would one day travel around beautiful Philippines. Now, he travels all over the Philippines, by foot, to help support children with cancer. Step Juan aims to help generate funds for those with cancer, and promote awareness about this disease all over the country.



Step Juan started on 2009, from the north of the Philippines and last year, Leonor earned 1.5 million pesos from walking around Luzon. He is know going towards south and is aiming to go to the Mindanao area. As of 2012, he has already earned 500 thousand pesos.



Tomas Leonor is a truly modern Filipino for several reasons. First, he never gave up hope on the children of our country. He hopes that one day the children with cancer he helped would eventually grow up and help others. He doesn't stop after giving them medical aid, he seeks to promote awareness to the situation and help other help those in need.



Second, in a world where technology has made life convenient, he gave up his convenience for the sake of others. He walked Luzon by FOOT on his own, to help the children with cancer. He wanted to help them, even if it meant constantly being tired. However, Leonor says that the idea of helping people has helped him go forward.



Finally, he is a true modern Filipino hero because he embodies the true characteristics of a Filipino. He is hardworking, persevering and helpful. He strives to do what is best for others and cares for others more than himself. Truly, Tomas Leonor is a hero in our time.
